There is a God in Heaven

Troubled by nightmares, King Nebuchadnezzar was unable to interpret their meaning, and he lashed out in rage. God answered Daniel’s prayer for help, and the meaning of the dreams was made clear. As we examine the text, Alistair Begg turns our attention to the everlasting nature of God’s kingdom established on the Rock that is Jesus Christ. When we align our thinking and habits with the truth of His Kingship, we can proclaim the Gospel through our lives.

The book of Daniel opens with Jerusalem besieged by Babylon and God’s people under the control of a pagan king. As Alistair Begg leads us through the conditions of Daniel’s captivity and Daniel’s response to those circumstances, we are reminded to keep our focus on the sovereignty of God. In the midst of our own persecution, we can look to the example of Christ and rest in God’s promises to us.

Daniel 1:1-21

How do we respond to persecution? In part, our reaction can be determined by our view of God’s sovereignty. Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego refused to bow down to idols, and faced a fiery furnace as a result. Alistair Begg explores the details of God’s miraculous salvation of His servants and urges us to submit to and serve God with our bodies and lives, especially in the face of difficulty.

The messages of Daniel would have been a great encouragement to the original audience that was comprised of exiles in a foreign land. In Daniel Chapter 4, King Nebuchadnezzar bore witness to God’s sovereign power and authority. Alistair Begg discusses Nebuchadnezzar’s dream, the interpretation and fulfillment of it, and the restoration of a king who finally looked to God for salvation. Despite the circumstances and trials of this world, we must remember that Christ reigns on an eternal throne.

Daniel 4:1-37

In Daniel 5, another pagan king, Belshazzar, reigned over Babylon, and in the midst of a lush banquet, he was confronted by the hand of God. Despite his knowledge of God’s power and dealings with Nebudchadnezzar, Belshazzar refused to humble himself before God’s throne, and it cost him his life. Alistair Begg reminds us that there is no refuge from God except the refuge found in God. Although all stand condemned in sin, Christ offers forgiveness and protection to those who humble themselves before His goodness and power.

Daniel 5:1-31

In Chapter 6, Daniel had become an older man who had served God faithfully throughout his life, and his character was known to the King Darius. Alistair Begg walks us through the story of Daniel in the den of lions, a story marked by a great trust in a faithful God who is able to deliver from death those who trust in Him. As Daniel’s story provided encouragement to the exiles then, so does the Gospel of Jesus provide hope to the exiles here in this fallen world.

Daniel 6:1-28

Lyric : No Place For Truth - Part 1

Many people believe that all paths lead to God. On Truth For Life, Alistair Begg exposes the threat of relativism and how this harmful influence can spill into local churches. Our recourse is to proclaim Christ as the way, the truth and the life!
